  • 2026 FL NOW State Conference: Feminists Fight Fascism

December 17, 2025 by Florida NOW and Debbie Deland, Vice President

January 2026 Positive News

Florida NOW and allied coalitions successfully blocked every anti‑reproductive freedom bill in the 2025 legislative session, marking the first time in years that no new restrictions passed. This is a major win for reproductive justice and coalition strength in Florida.

Highlights of Positive Developments for FL NOW Issues

Reproductive Rights

  • Legislative Victory: For the first time in recent years, all bills filed in the Florida Legislature attempting to limit reproductive freedom were stopped. Advocates describe this as “holding the line” and even strengthening the coalition.
  • FL NOW with Progress FL developed the FRF Fact Sheet on Repro Health. Some of the other Fact Sheets in progress are Contraception, Sex Ed, Pornography and Children…
  • New Resource: The Comms and Research Hub published Abortion in Florida: Holding the Line in 2025, a guide that documents the movement’s resilience and messaging strategies.
  • Coalition Growth: Groups like the Queer Trans Project joined Floridians for Reproductive Freedom, expanding intersectional support for bodily autonomy.

LGBTQ+ & Gender Justice

  • Queer Trans Project Expansion: A Black trans‑led nonprofit now serves Florida and beyond, distributing “Build‑a‑Queer Kits” with life‑saving gender‑affirming items like chest binders and health bundles.
  • Community Solidarity: Pride Month events across Florida emphasized coalition strength, linking reproductive justice with LGBTQ+ health equity.

Coalition & Community Action

  • Training & Mobilization: ACLU and allied groups hosted “Power & Purpose” trainings in Miami, building grassroots leadership.
  • Local NOW Chapters: Pinellas NOW organized a Resistance Day of Action in St. Pete, showing strong local mobilization. Greater Orlando NOW organized drive to donate clothes, period products, and food. Greater Orlando NOW joined all national protests as did most chapters.
  • FL NOW is getting the word out beyond Chapter Counties, i.e., every County in the state has news/media contacts that now get our press releases.
  • Food Security Solidarity: FL NOW donated to the Florida Food Bank (Second Harvest) to support families impacted by the government shutdown, reinforcing its commitment to community care.

Bottom Line

FL NOW and its allies are not just resisting attacks — they are winning victories, expanding coalitions, and delivering tangible support to communities. From stopping anti‑choice bills to strengthening LGBTQ+ solidarity and feeding families, the movement is demonstrating resilience and hope.
