2026 Legislation Special Session

Judi Marraccini / FL NOW Legislative Director / legislative@flnow.org

5.18.26

We are now in a Special Session for the legislators TO DO THEIR JOB.  Their only job is to hand the governor a balanced budget.

Every day that the session lasts costs us, the tax payers, money.

The Florida House and Senate are far apart on spending priorities for schools, healthcare and whether Governor Ron DeSantis deserves a security detail after he leaves office.

The new redistricting map is in court and candidates for US congressional seats are figuring out where they can run.

The map has erased all communities of voters who are not registered Republicans.  Florida is supposed to be a TWO party system and it is no longer.

The Florida SAVE Act was passed and signed by the governor.  The SAVE Act states that people cannot vote unless they use the last name they were born with OR have a US Passport.  Who changes their last name?  WOMEN who marry and take their husband’s last name.  Unless these women get a US Passport, they will not be able to vote in 2028.  This is premeditated to erase married / divorced / name change for any reason / Florida voters.

Everyone can vote in the 2026 elections.  Do you know only 8% of voters vote in the state primary on August 18?  That means that 8% of  Florida voters determine who is on the November 3rd ballot.  This is important…this is how you can make a difference.  Vote in the primary!  Your vote counts this year.  It may be the last vote you may have.
