Florida NOW Oral History Digital Archive Project
Florida NOW is documenting the stories, organizing history, and community work of our chapters and members across the state.
From August to December, Florida NOW Communications Director Kaitlyn Kirk will travel to our chapters across Florida to record oral histories and photograph members and their organizing work.
Oral history participants will be invited to share their experiences with:
- Feminist advocacy and organizing
- Reproductive justice and bodily autonomy
- Civic engagement and voter advocacy
- Racial justice and civil rights
- Mutual aid
- Chapter history and organizational development
- Historic actions and campaigns
- The changing landscape of feminist organizing in Florida or nationally
If you have materials from your organizing history, we encourage you to bring them with you. Flyers, posters, photographs, newsletters, and other materials can help document the history of your chapter and your work. We will photograph you with the item as well as photograph the item separately.
The Digital Archive
Oral testimonies will be recorded and transcribed. Photographs will be organized and preserved as part of the archive.
The goal is to preserve these stories in a way that makes them accessible to future members, organizers, researchers, students, and the broader public.
Much of Florida’s feminist organizing history lives in the memories and personal collections of the people who experienced it.
This project gives longtime members and current organizers an opportunity to document that history in their own voices while also strengthening the record of work Florida NOW chapters have done.
We want to hear from longtime members, former and current chapter leaders, organizers, volunteers, and community members who have been part of Florida NOW’s story.
