Florida NOW Film Screening: Reimagining Safety
Join us as we close out the series with a screening of Reimagining Safety, a documentary filmed in the aftermath of the 2020 murder of George Floyd and the worldwide protests that followed. The film brings together 10 experts, including abolitionists, social workers, scholars, a former LAPD detective, and a former district attorney, to examine how policing and incarceration shape our ideas about safety.
The film revisits the 2020 protests and the growing calls to defund and abolish the police, while exploring the history and ongoing impact of police violence, racism, mass incarceration, mental health crises, housing insecurity, and the criminalization of poverty. It also highlights restorative justice, violence prevention, community responders, and other approaches that seek to build safety through care, accountability, and community rather than punishment and isolation.
Stay after the screening for our final community reflection and conversation in this series.
