Quilt For Auction at the Florida NOW Conference

Crafting a quilt is art. Crafting is also a form of rebellion. Crafting is a revolution. Crafting is a resistance.

This new quilt comes to you through the act of rebellion, the act of revolution, and the act of resistance of those who came before us. I found my inspiration in The Suffragists through every hour of design and preparation and every stitch made.

I chose the colors with their meanings from the banners used in the United States:

  • purple– loyalty and consistency to purpose; a steadfastness to the cause
  • white – moral quality of purpose (to counter the argument that suffrage was unnatural)
  • gold – light and life, it acts as a torch for lighting and guiding us in our purpose.

And in the United Kingdom:

  • purple – for dignity and loyalty of purpose
  • white – purity of purpose
  • green – new beginnings associated with spring

The GOLD also honors Elizabeth Kady Staton, who wore a yellow sunflower (the state flower of Kansas) during the Suffrage Campaign.

The GREEN also adds a nod to sisters of the South American Reproductive Freedom Groups.

The fabric patterns I selected for this quilt are “tropical Batiks”, a fabric in a dye-resistant technique, to represent FLORIDA NOW.

I hope the winner of this quilt will stay on the path, stay strong in our purpose and will work to support the next generation of women!

Ticket prices – 1 for $5. /3 for $10./  8 for $20.

Purchase raffle tickets through our online donation page or at the conference. Please put “Quilt26” in the memo.
