The Florida NOW Education Fund was established in 2007, as the Florida National Organization for Women visualized having a foundation to help educate and inspire women and girls of Florida.
MISSION
The Florida NOW Education Fund’s mission is to improve the status of Florida’s women and girls through education, research, and the dissemination of informational material. Our purpose is to educate the public on issues that concern women and especially women in Florida. We aim to provide information about women as a class rather than provide specific aid to individual women in achieving personal solutions or temporary relief from oppression.
VALUES
The Florida NOW Education Fund BELIEVES that education is key to women’s achieving equal status and full participation in our society and that knowledge affects decision-making in political, economic and social realms. We BELIEVE when women have the facts, they can exercise their political rights and responsibilities as citizens. WE BELIEVE that knowledge can help women develop confidence in their own ability to determine actively, in partnership with men, the conditions of their life, their choices, their future and their society.
VISION
The Florida NOW Education Fund commits to providing education about issues and matters that affect women and girls. We reaffirm our faith that knowledge can make a difference. It is our hope that the information we publish will attract young women to feminism and to working within the feminist agenda. We acknowledges that achieving parity cannot be realized without including all women; and that women, especially younger women, need to understand how tenuous their rights are, that without Constitutional guarantee for equality, these rights can be lost, and that they are the future.
ACTIVITIES
The Florida NOW Education Fund’s main activity is to raise money to help disseminate and develop information necessary to engage, educate, and inspire women. This information may be delivered via an interactive Web page, brochures, pamphlets, videos, books, articles, and public speaking engagements.
The Florida NOW Education Fund encourages the development of this information for women throughout the state by requesting papers, articles, and research papers that are kept in repository on the Florida NOW Education Fund web pages for access to all.
PRIORITIES
The Florida NOW Education Fund priorities for the next several years include educating women on the issue of equal rights; the full range of reproductive health choices including birth control and abortion; fairness in the courts with regard to child custody, spousal support, and domestic violence; and issues of discrimination against women. We will strive to raisie public awareness about problems related to women’s position in society; to increase awareness among service providers such as social workers, police, medical personal, etc. about specific issues relating to women, especially Human Trafficking; to encouraging women to vote, to run for office and to seek positions of power and responsibility in the community; to seek out feminist work and research; and identify and recognize outstanding women in Florida.
GOVERNANCE AND STRUCTURE
The Florida NOW Education Fund is a volunteer organization lead by a board of volunteers consisting of president, vice-president, treasurer and secretary. Officers are elected for a two-year term. All other committees are volunteer and established as needed. Volunteers are encouraged and welcomed; they play a vital role in the success of the fund.
