‘SAVE ACT’ WILL DISENFRANCHISE MILLIONS OF AMERICAN VOTERS
‘SAVE ACT’ is a dangerous attempt to prevent eligible citizens their right to vote in order to promote Trump’s fast march to tyranny
The SAVE Act’s proof-of-citizenship requirement is a discriminatory solution in search of a virtually nonexistent problem. Claims about widespread voting by noncitizens have been roundly debunked. Studies show only U.S. citizens vote, and the exceptions are vanishingly rare. State-level investigations into voter rolls have repeatedly confirmed that fact.
The SAVE Act would require every voter to show proof of citizenship through documents like passports and birth certificates that must bear their current name when registering to vote.
The ramifications are:
• It will end online and mail-in voter registration.
• Proof of citizenship doesn’t mean a simple driver’s license.It means a birth certificate or a passport – documents that tens of millions of citizens simply don’t have access to.
• Married people who’ve changed their names wouldn’t be able to register using their original birth certificates– effectively disenfranchising millions of women.
•The burdensome requirements would disproportionately impact women, rural voters, voters of color, low-income voters, and elder voters who may not even have an original birth
certificate or the purpose or means to purchase passports. It will also impact younger
voters (college students normally don’t have these documents at college).
•Arizona and Kansas passed similar legislation and tens of thousands of eligible voters were disenfranchised.
FLORIDA NOW REACTS:
Debbie Deland, President of Florida NOW, said,“The ‘SAVE Act’, a bill in lockstep with MAGA’s goal, will unleash the worst voter suppression impact since before the Civil Rights Movement. We must quash this appalling bill. We just can’t allow millions of voters to be disenfranchised due to not having access to these documents. We need Democrats in the House to all vote NO. This is outrageous, Un-American, and NOT a characteristic of a democracy. There is no problem to solve as documented across many outlets and studies. I can’t imagine the harm to our democracy if the ‘SAVE Act” is passed and signed into law.”
CALL TO ACTION:
We must act NOW to stop the ‘Save Act’ to protect our democratic freedoms. Florida NOW calls on all citizens to spread the word to friends and family to call out ‘Save Act’ for it’s huge voter suppression impact.

Vote in local, state, and federal elections to remove politicians who endorse these discriminatory policies. Reminder: Voters must re-enroll now for the vote-by-mail option (to have your ballot sent directly to your home).
