Reproductive Justice

For more information contact Judi Marraccini / Reproductive Rights Task Force Chair

Florida NOW affirms that access to reproductive healthcare is not just a matter of personal choice—it is a fundamental human right and a matter of survival, safety, and self-determination. We embrace the framework of reproductive justice, as defined by SisterSong, which includes the right to have children, not have children, and to raise families in safe, sustainable communities.

Our advocacy goes beyond defending the legal right to abortion. We fight for full access to comprehensive, affordable, and culturally affirming reproductive healthcare—including abortion, contraception, prenatal and postpartum care, fertility services, gender-affirming care, and sex education—regardless of income, immigration status, age, or geographic location.

We oppose all efforts to restrict or criminalize reproductive autonomy through legislation, constitutional amendments, or regulatory attacks. We also reject the racist, ableist, and classist systems that have long controlled the reproductive lives of Black, Indigenous, disabled, incarcerated, undocumented, and low-income people.

Reproductive justice must include safe housing, environmental protections, healthcare access, childcare, and freedom from criminalization. Florida NOW is committed to organizing alongside the communities most impacted to ensure that reproductive freedom is a lived reality for all.

BAD upcoming Bills for the 2026 FL Legislative Session

SB 166 Parental Rights: Grall – Requires parental consent for minors to access reproductive treatment (STD tests, contraceptives, outpatient crisis intervention).  This bill would not allow any medical privacy for a minor.

HB 289 / SB 164 Civil Liability for the Wrongful Death of an Unborn Child: Grall – This personhood bill  declares that the fetus is a person with full rights and privileges of a live person.  We have named this “the bounty hunter’s bill” because it allows anyone to bring a suit against the pregnant person.  It has passed all committees and is up for a full House Vote once FL Legislative session starts.

HB 743 Prohibited Sex-reassignment Prescriptions and Procedures: Melo – Prohibits health care practitioner from aiding or abetting another in specified violation; authorizes Attorney General to conduct investigation & bring civil action against such health care practitioner; provides for damages, injunctive relief, & civil penalties; provides that any damages collected shall accrue to injured minor.
