Issues

NOW is a multi-issue, multi-strategy organization committed to advancing gender justice through an intersectional feminist lens. We recognize that liberation is impossible without dismantling the interlocking systems of white supremacy and cisheteropatriarchy. Our priorities include advancing economic justice grounded in collective care and community self-determination; fighting for reproductive justice, as defined by SisterSong, as the human right to bodily autonomy, to have children, not have children, and to raise families in safe, sustainable communities; confronting systemic racism and state violence; defending the lives, rights, and self-determination of LGBTQIA2+ people; and ending all forms of gender-based violence, with a focus on those most impacted, including Black, Indigenous, disabled, immigrant, queer and trans communities.

Constitutional Equality

Florida NOW fights for equity in wages, employment, political representation, social protections, and access to education, while continuing to demand a clear and enforceable guarantee of gender equality in the U.S. Constitution through the Equal Rights Amendment.

Economic Justice

Florida NOW advocates for a broad range of economic justice issues impacting women and gender-expansive people, including living wages, pay equity, protections against job discrimination, social security and pension reform, and more. We aim to challenge and unlearn whitewashed, corporate, and capitalistic feminisms that often overlook or erase the experiences of marginalized, working-class communities and uphold existing systems of oppression.

Freedom from Violence

Florida NOW is unique in its approach to the issue of gendered violence against cisgender women, transgender women, intersex and nonbinary people emphasizing the interrelated factors and complexity of the issue.

Florida NOW proudly champions the transformative Seek Then Speak campaign in Florida, which offers sexual assault survivors a confidential and accessible online reporting platform. This initiative empowers survivors by providing a safer alternative to traditional reporting methods, reducing barriers and retraumatization often experienced in face-to-face interactions with law enforcement.

LGBTQIA2+ Rights

FL NOWFlorida NOW is committed to advancing the rights, safety, and liberation of LGBTQIA2+ people in every aspect of life. We oppose all forms of discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression—including in employment, housing, education, healthcare, public accommodations, family law, and military policy.

Racial Justice

Florida NOW recognizes that racial justice is essential to gender justice. We are committed to challenging racism in all its forms—within our communities, our institutions, and our own movement. Through the Florida NOW Racial Justice Task Force, we support policies and organizing that center the voices, needs, and leadership of women and gender-expansive people of color.

Reproductive Justice

Florida NOW fully supports access to safe and legal abortion, to effective birth control and emergency contraception, to reproductive health services and education for all people.

Gender justice does not exist in isolation. The issues we face are interconnected, shaped by systemic inequalities across race, class, disability, geography, and immigration status. Florida NOW is committed to addressing the compounded challenges experienced by disabled people, rural communities, farmworkers, and all those pushed to the margins by oppressive systems.

We recognize that environmental justice is inseparable from reproductive and economic justice. The fight for a livable planet is a fight for our collective future—especially for Black, Indigenous, and frontline communities disproportionately impacted by environmental harm.

We affirm the critical importance of the separation of church and state, especially as religious extremism threatens bodily autonomy and civil rights. We advocate for a national, single-payer healthcare system that guarantees universal, affirming care—including reproductive, gender-affirming, and mental health services.

We demand equity and accountability in family court systems that too often punish survivors, criminalize poverty, and fail queer and trans parents. We believe political engagement must be grounded in community, care, and lived experience.

Justice requires more than awareness—it requires action, solidarity, and a willingness to reimagine the systems that shape our lives. Florida NOW is committed to that work.
