SUMMARY:FL NOW Screening: "LAKOTA NATION VS UNITED STATES" Sunday\, November 16th\, 2pm
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this month’s film screening: Lakota Nation Vs United States \nAs the season approaches when many celebrate without recognizing the ongoing history of Indigenous resistance or acknowledging settler violence\, this film invites us to reflect\, learn\, and listen. \nDirected by Jesse Short Bull and Laura Tomaselli\, and narrated by acclaimed poet Layli Long Soldier\, Lakota Nation vs. United States tells the story of the Lakota people’s resistance to the U.S. government’s theft of the Black Hills\, land that was promised back to them by treaty\, later seized and stolen again. \nThrough archival footage\, interviews\, and the voices of Lakota leaders and community members\, the film traces generations of broken treaties\, systemic dispossession\, and cultural erasure\, while highlighting the resilience and strength of the Lakota Nation. \nFollowing the screening\, we will host an open community conversation on Indigenous resistance\, sovereignty\, land justice\, and how struggles for liberation are interconnected across movements. \nCome watch this must see film with us! \nSunday\, November 16th\, 2pm on Zoom \nSignup\nLakota Nation vs United States website

SUMMARY:FL NOW Screening "PARIS IS BURNING" Sunday\, December 21st\, 2pm
DESCRIPTION:Paris Is Burning is a 1990 American documentary film directed by Jennie Livingston. Filmed in the mid-to-late 1980s\, it chronicles the ball culture of New York City and the African-American\, Latino\, gay and transgender communities involved in it. \nCritics consider the film to be an invaluable documentary of the end of the “Golden Age” of New York City drag balls\, and a thoughtful exploration of race\, class\, gender and sexuality in America. \nIn 2016\, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally\, historically or aesthetically significant”. \nWe’ll follow the screening with a community discussion on how the legacies of ball culture continue to shape struggles for liberation\, visibility\, joy\, and self-determination today. \nSunday\, December 21st\, 2pm on Zoom \nSign Up

SUMMARY:Florida Now Screening: Free Angela & All Political Prisoners
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a powerful community screening and conversation about the life\, activism\, and political persecution of Angela Davis. This documentary traces how state repression\, racism\, and surveillance shaped one of the most important liberation movements of the 20th century\, and how those same systems continue to impact organizers\, Black communities\, and political prisoners today. \nAs Florida heads into another difficult legislative session\, we’re grounding ourselves in history\, solidarity\, and collective learning. This virtual gathering is open to everyone who wants to better understand how these struggles connect to the work we’re doing now in our local communities. \nhttps://mobilize.us/s/062iQc

SUMMARY:Florida NOW Screening: The Librarians (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Join Florida NOW\, TX NOW\, and NETNOW for a virtual screening of “The Librarians” on Saturday\, April 18th at 2 pm ET\, 1 pm CT. The documentary follows librarians in Florida and Texas as they confront intimidation\, harassment\, and threats of violence for defending access to books\, information\, and intellectual freedom from coordinated censorship efforts. \n \nAs book bans and attacks on public education escalate\, librarians are on the front lines of protecting free expression\, LGBTQ+ stories\, racial justice histories\, and the right of young people to learn and question the world around them. \nWatch the trailer here. \nAfter the film\, we will have a short collective chat. We invite you to gather with us as we reflect\, learn\, and stay connected to the intersectional struggles we are facing. \n>>> RSVP Here <<<
