SUMMARY:FL NOW Screening "PARIS IS BURNING" Sunday\, December 21st\, 2pm
DESCRIPTION:Paris Is Burning is a 1990 American documentary film directed by Jennie Livingston. Filmed in the mid-to-late 1980s\, it chronicles the ball culture of New York City and the African-American\, Latino\, gay and transgender communities involved in it. \nCritics consider the film to be an invaluable documentary of the end of the “Golden Age” of New York City drag balls\, and a thoughtful exploration of race\, class\, gender and sexuality in America. \nIn 2016\, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally\, historically or aesthetically significant”. \nWe’ll follow the screening with a community discussion on how the legacies of ball culture continue to shape struggles for liberation\, visibility\, joy\, and self-determination today. \nSunday\, December 21st\, 2pm on Zoom \nSign Up

SUMMARY:FL NOW Screening: "LAKOTA NATION VS UNITED STATES" Sunday\, November 16th\, 2pm
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this month’s film screening: Lakota Nation Vs United States \nAs the season approaches when many celebrate without recognizing the ongoing history of Indigenous resistance or acknowledging settler violence\, this film invites us to reflect\, learn\, and listen. \nDirected by Jesse Short Bull and Laura Tomaselli\, and narrated by acclaimed poet Layli Long Soldier\, Lakota Nation vs. United States tells the story of the Lakota people’s resistance to the U.S. government’s theft of the Black Hills\, land that was promised back to them by treaty\, later seized and stolen again. \nThrough archival footage\, interviews\, and the voices of Lakota leaders and community members\, the film traces generations of broken treaties\, systemic dispossession\, and cultural erasure\, while highlighting the resilience and strength of the Lakota Nation. \nFollowing the screening\, we will host an open community conversation on Indigenous resistance\, sovereignty\, land justice\, and how struggles for liberation are interconnected across movements. \nCome watch this must see film with us! \nSunday\, November 16th\, 2pm on Zoom \nSignup\nLakota Nation vs United States website

SUMMARY:FL NOW Movie Event - Sunday\, October 19th\, 2pm - movie "GET OUT"
DESCRIPTION:GET OUT Screening- Sign up here \nOne of the biggest movies about race to ever go mainstream\, the Academy Award-nominated Get Out from Jordan Peele (who has never made a bad movie) has probably said more about the hypocrisy of white Liberalism and its intersection with black culture than any other film in American history. The movie is about 50% humorous\, 50% terrifying\, and 100% insightful. You’ve probably already seen it but see it again. It has layers and there’s probably still a lot for you to uncover.
