DESCRIPTION:Join us on Zoom for a cozy end-of-year gathering with the FLNOW Anti-Racism Learning Book Club. This is a space to reflect on the books and authors that shaped our conversations this year\, connect with one another\, and look ahead to the collective learning we’ll be doing in 2026. \nDecember 15th 6:30 PM \nOpen to all! \nContact Debbie Deland at vp@flnow.org for Zoom information. \n  \n  \n  \nThe FL NOW Book Club meets once a month on the third Monday of the month at 6:30 P.M. \nOur book club is a space for learning\, discussion\, and collective growth\, with a focus on racial justice and anti-racism. We explore the histories\, experiences\, and contributions of Black\, Indigenous\, Latinx\, Asian\, Arab\, and other communities of color. We examine both past and ongoing systems of oppression in the U.S.\, including slavery\, settler colonialism\, segregation\, and systemic racism\, and how these forces continue to shape society today. \nOur goal is to understand the real history of the United States\, confront cultural and structural racism\, and consider ways to build solidarity and dismantle injustice. This is a space for reflection\, dialogue\, and action\, guided by curiosity\, humility\, and a commitment to equity. \nWe welcome all people who are eager to learn\, grow\, and engage in critical conversations. DESCRIPTION:Paris Is Burning is a 1990 American documentary film directed by Jennie Livingston. Filmed in the mid-to-late 1980s\, it chronicles the ball culture of New York City and the African-American\, Latino\, gay and transgender communities involved in it. \nCritics consider the film to be an invaluable documentary of the end of the “Golden Age” of New York City drag balls\, and a thoughtful exploration of race\, class\, gender and sexuality in America. \nIn 2016\, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally\, historically or aesthetically significant”. \nWe’ll follow the screening with a community discussion on how the legacies of ball culture continue to shape struggles for liberation\, visibility\, joy\, and self-determination today. \nSunday\, December 21st\, 2pm on Zoom \nSign Up
